Modern Day Warrior – Mean, Mean Stride

Taken from the final chapters of that little, thin, red book

Before introducing myself and providing the disclaimer, I asked the 3 HIMs in attendance if anyone had read the book “Freed to Lead”  In return I got a bunch of head shakes and  so I talked to the guys about Tom Sawyer, RUSH and why I titled the workout Modern Day Warrior.   Next, I said the legal stuff and we took off to run a lap around the parking lot in such Mosey fashion as we tend to do.

Warm-O-Rama

1.   Plank Position : 30 second plank hold, Arm raises, down dogs, Mtn Climbers

2.   On our backs : LBCs, Big Boys, Flutters, 6-inch leg raises

3.   On our feet  :  Seal Jacks, Something Pickers, high knees, HB & Imperial Walkers

Recover on our feet and mosey from the upper lot on down to “da riva.”

The Thang

To the Lake Wylie boat ramps and out on the floating docks, I cranked up my new Spotify Playlist loud to listen to Tom Sawyer and a spell of other RUSH and JUDAS PRIEST hymns.   I think we woke up the early bird fisherman, one old dude on the bank looked steamed.  As we jammed to RUSH whilst doing Merkins on the floating docks we did a TABATA style beatdown.   It went like this:   AMRAP 90 seconds per exercise, with a 15 second rest period between each exercise.  We did AMRAP Merkins, Big Boys, Squats then recover to do Pearls on a String.   A brief mosey then switch up to Lt. Dan’s (I always do those obviously) until knees buckled.

Next, run off to the Lake Wylie Welcome monument (American Flag circle lit like it’s Christmas) to continue the TABATA with Dips, Rocky Balboas, and LBC’s.   At this point I shutdown the obnoxious music to put hand on heart and say the Pledge of Allegiance.

We spoke of What is a Modern-Day Warrior?   A Dad and/or Husband working through it trying to do the right thing and do the best that each one of us can do.  God vs. Satan, Good vs. Evil, living 3rd (put your self-needs last) and standing up and doing what’s right.

To the next Pearl, we moseyed on from the flag/monument circle through QT and back to COT with maybe 7 minutes remaining for some dealer’s choice Ab Lab.   We finished with hammers, leg lifts, Freddie’s, and cockroaches until time expired.

Announcements:

We mentioned a charity golf outing, Thursday night Lake Wylie Brewing send-off for Sand Dollar and few other Friday, Saturday A.O. details.

Prayers & Praises:

For expecting Mother’s, for people with mental health issues, those fighting cancer, Covid, and other such things.  We ended COT on knees saying the Lord’s Prayer.

Honored to lead these fine Men at Poopdeck, thank you Silent Bob for the Opportunity!
